To discern where the PE industry stood at the end of 2023 and where it could be heading in 2024, Mergermarket surveyed 100 senior executives in PE firms on behalf of Dechert. The results were supplemented with insights by Dechert attorneys in its “2024 Global Private Equity Outlook” (Report). In addition, Dechert hosted a webinar that offered further commentary on the trends and developments highlighted in the Report. The program, moderated by Dechert partner Siew Kam Boon, featured her partner, Sabina Comis, as well as Bryan Jenkins, co-head of portfolio management group, Hamilton Lane; Cécile Lévi, head of private debt, Tikehau Capital; Mukesh Sharda, managing partner, Capital Square Partners; and Jeffrey Vogel, managing partner and head of tech, Court Square Capital Partners. This second article in a two-part series details factors behind the recent growth in private credit, secondary transactions, GP stakes divestitures and co‑investments, as well as the industry’s burgeoning interest in the use of artificial intelligence. The first article analyzed some of the latest developments related to environmental, social and governance investing, as well as certain fundraising and regulatory headwinds the PE industry is facing.
